A beautiful Café bike sometimes looks very fast even when not moving. That was not really the case here.
Old chronometric speedometers sometimes behave a bit peculiarly. Among other things the hand of the speedometer moves in increments, in steps. Another oddity is that, if the wire suddenly comes off, or breaks, the hand will remain pointing at the speed of the moment.
The thing is that, in this case, the incident took place on a small road, far away from any highway. The driver suddenly realised this and started to think intensively to come up with a story to serve an inquisitive police officer in case he ran in to a routine police check point.
Please, don't get upset, it's not a mph speedo but a kph one....
The speedo also doubles as a fly screen.
En vacker sporthoj kan ju se ut som om den går fort redan när den står still. Så var dock inte fallet här.
Äldre chronometriska hastighetsmätare brukar ha en del egenheter. Bland annat rör sig nålen lite stegvis. En annan egenhet är att om hastighetsmätarwiren plötsligt lossnar så brukar nålen kunna stanna i det läge där den just då var.
I detta fallet skedde det i ett område med bara mindre vägar där det var långt till någon väg med högre hastighetsgräns. Tanken som slog föraren var då hur han skulle förklara saken om han skulle råka bli stoppad i en poliskontroll.....
Hastighetsmätaren fungerar även som flyscreen.
