Vi kör på maskiner som är i pensionsåldern och har haft ett hårt liv i händerna på gasglada ägare. Den sista Vincenten byggdes 1955 och flera är från slutet av 40-talet. Många kördes långt och i modernt trafiktempo till och från träffen, de med längst väg att åka kom från England. Då är det trots allt förvånansvärt att inte fler problem uppstår (eller rapporterats). Inte många andra fabrikat av den åldern skulle klara den typen av körning idag.
We ride machines that should have retired long ago, and some bikes live a hard life in the hands of gas happy owners. The last Vincent was built in 1955 and many of the bikes present at the Rally were manufactured in the 40-ies. Many of them had covered a long way at modern traffic pace to come here, with England as the most distant starting point. Bearing all this in mind, it is nothing less than strange that not more problems have been reported. How many other motorcycle brands from those days can stand up so well to this type of strain? |

Gill var tillsammans med sin Ernie på väg till träffen då hon fick problem med sin Black Shadow och fick åka tillbaka hem och hämta en annan hoj.

Åkte hemifrån på lördag och vann Längsta Färdsträcka på Riders Rally i Halifax (29 mil)! Vi planerade att åka direkt till Newcastle för att ta färjan till Amsterdam, men när vi startade kom det otrevliga knackningar från vevhuset på min hoj. Vi fick boka om färjan och åka tillbaka hem för att hämta min Triumph. Därmed missade vi CalleTour men kom till Brodten som planerat.
Den nedersta bilden är från när vi kommit hem igen. Ernie har diagnostiserat felet till vavstakslagren, båda ändar. Jag tror inte vi blir klara till det Franska Rallyt, men vi hoppas åka på den till the Annual 3-5 augusti i Gloucestershire. |

Det här är en Shadow som åkt som en jojo kors och tvärs i Europa och samlat på sig många många mil, så givetvis kan sådant hända förr eller senare.
Som pris för att inte ge upp förärades hon två flaskor vin "Lucky Bastard" vid prisutdelningen. |

En Route to the rally together with Ernie, Gill got problems with her Black Shadow and had to return home to collect another bike.

We left home on Saturday and won a prize for furthest travelled at the Riders Rally in Halifax (184 Miles). We planned to go straight to Newcastle for the Amsterdam ferry but as we left my bike was making a nasty clatter from the bottom of the engine.
We had to change our ferry booking and return home for my Triumph, missing the Calletour but making it to Brodten as planned.
The picture below shows my bike after we came back home. Ernie has diagnosed the big ends are worn (and small ends too). I don?t think it will be ready for the French Rally, but hope to be on it at the Annual 3-5th August in Gloucestershire.

This is a Shadow with a lot of miles on the clock travelling all over Europe, so things like this will happen, soner or later.
As a price for not giving up, she was awarded with two bottles of Australian wine "Lucky Bastard" at the price distribution ceremony. |
